Bologna, Italy’s third most popular Italian destination after Rome and Milan. ICCA’s prestigious ranking of the top international Conference Tourism countries and cities shows Italy in 2nd place and Bologna among the 3 most popular Italian cities. With its broad-ranging event calendar forecast to attract some 20,000 international attendees in 2024, Bologna Congress Center – an extensive convention complex - confirms its place among the top international venues.
Bologna, 21 May 2024 – Again this year, Bologna Congress Center - BolognaFiere Group’s international convention complex - exhibited at Frankfurt’s IMEX, the top Meeting Industry trade show.
Attending also was the Bologna Convention Bureau, Bologna Welcome’s business unit. The aim: to promote both the Bologna Congress Center and the city of Bologna as a destination for international and national events, conventions and incentive-travel.
During Imex, the updated “Top 20 Destination Performance Index” of ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) confirmed Italy’s unprecedented performance: now the world’s second conference and convention destination for events held in 2023, just behind the United States.
This achievement is the result of years of sector growth, which saw Italy go from sixth position in 2018/19 to second place in 2022. Italy also confirmed its position as the country with the largest number of cities in the top 100 , with some 7 destinations in the global classification. There was great satisfaction to see Bologna again as the third most popular Italian destination after Rome and Milan.
“This confirms the development plan constructed over several years together with the city’s stakeholders. We will now work to consolidate these results and development new business synergies”, commented Donato Loria, Bologna Congressi CEO and BolognaFiere Group Manager.
President of BolognaFiere Group, Gianpiero Calzolari, also expressed his satisfaction. “The steady growth of BolognaFiere Group’s conference sector testifies to an unprecedented commitment that we will continue to support in the years to come. My thanks go to the Bologna Congressi team for seizing market opportunities and offering solutions to top international standards”.
“Aimed to contribute to the success of the entire BolognaFiere Group, the Bologna Congress Center has become an increasingly international venue. We see that an ever-increasing number of operators are choosing Italy as a meta-MICE and Bologna as the ideal place for their congress. 2024 has seen our offering increase with the creation of five new meeting rooms”, concluded Donato Loria.
For 2024, Bologna Congressi has announced an extensive calendar of over 100 international, national and regional events spanning the scientific, medical, educational and other sectors.
