OUR HISTORY

The ModenaFiere exhibition center was established in 1989 by local institutions and the territory's leading economic and social organizations. That year, BolognaFiere—alongside local authorities from Modena and Ferrara—created Europe’s first example of a polycentric metropolitan fair system.
This partnership united three cities sharing a world-class economic and cultural heritage, built on visionary planning, operational pragmatism, research capabilities, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
In 1995, when Modena's entry into the trade fair system was considered to be well established, Modena Esposizioni S.r.l. was founded, a company owned by BolognaFiere, the majority shareholder, the Municipality of Modena, and PRO.Mo, a consortium made up of Modena's leading economic institutions.
In 2008 , the company name changed and ModenaFiere S.r.l. was established. A capital increase was approved and two new shareholders joined—the Province of Modena and the Modena Chamber of Commerce—which had previously only been indirectly involved through Pro.Mo.
In 2023 BolognaFiere acquires 100% ownership of ModenaFiere S.r.l., which remains the concessionaire of the Modena Exhibition Center, a facility owned by the Municipality of Modena.
On October 30, 2025, the Board of Directors of BolognaFiere S.p.A. approved the merger by incorporation of ModenaFiere S.r.l. The merger is part of the BolognaFiere Group's broader rationalization program, launched at the same time as its listing on the Professional segment of the Euronext Growth Milan market, and aimed at reducing the number of subsidiaries and functionally dividing their activities.
Today, ModenaFiere, a venue belonging to the BolognaFiere Group, is an important asset for the regional trade fair system which, in addition to generating significant economic benefits for the city, is able to give the right visibility to the region's manufacturing excellence.
